Lodge All-Rounder

  • Alpine Retreat Mt Buller 6 Stirling Road Mount Buller, VIC, 3723 Australia (map)

Are you looking to start your snow season career but not sure where your skills might be best applied? We are looking to fill a casual position which will see the lucky recipient cover all bases, from reception to housekeeping, bar to restaurant and ski hire to maintenance. One day you could be making beds and folding laundry, the next you could be collecting glasses and after that you might be spinning dins or fixing a guest’s problem with a smile. To succeed in this role you’ll need to be the biggest team player, able to slot in seamlessly, often at short notice, and apply yourself to each different duty with acumen and commitment. Driving and maintenance may also be required from time to time, so a full driving licence and some handyman skills will also be looked upon favourably, as will a willingness to shovel snow on a regular basis. You’ll get to experience and work within all areas of the business, so we need someone who is friendly, flexible, ready and willing to tackle all the twists and turns that operating in a ski resort can present. Of course, all this will be whilst you get to live the dream and spend plenty of time out on the slopes, but, most importantly, you’ll need to be committed to ensuring that our guests are enjoying their essential snow experience, as well.

Key Responsibilities

  • To stand in for any role necessary and to cover in the event of illness / injury

  • To take responsibility for filling in where needed in the team to ensure that our guest’s welfare, their holiday expectations and the quality of their overall “snow experience” is met and delivered over the course of the season

  • To ensure the lodge is kept clean and tidy and that health and hygiene standards are exceeded on a daily basis

  • To help in the laundry, washing, folding and putting away clean linen

  • To aid the housekeeping team in preparing rooms and communal areas for guest use by cleaning and making beds, tidying and removing rubbish

  • To help the bar team to ensure the efficient running of the bar by replacing stock, ice and collecting glasses

  • To assist the reception and office teams to deliver the best customer service by ensuring phones are answered and guest requests are fulfilled

  • To support the ski hire team with providing rentals and putting away returns

  • To ensure that any necessary maintenance is carried out as quickly as possible and to deal with any guest problems that may arise as a result

  • To take responsibility for snow clearing and removal to ensure the safe operation of entrances and walkways

  • To adhere to all food safety practices and responsible service of alcohol policies and procedures

  • To make yourself known and available to guests as a source of information and assistance and to be a point of contact for any customer queries or issues, helping to maintain a high level of customer service at all times

  • To perform such other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time

Personal Requirements:

  • An excellent understanding of customer service

  • Previous hospitality experience, preferably in accommodation, restaurant or bar operations

  • Friendly, helpful and patient, enjoy working with people

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Able to work as part of a team

  • Able to project a professional manner at all times

  • Able to record information accurately

  • Flexible and resourceful

  • Able to stay calm in difficult situations

  • Possess a flexible, hands-on and pro-active approach

  • Highly motivated

  • Able to work on own initiative

  • For driving requirements, you will need to be aged 25 or over for insurance reasons with the Lodge Landcruiser

  • A keen skier or snowboarder who is able to describe what a great snow experience means to them

Please note that this job will be on a casual basis and hours per week will vary according to business needs. Shifts will be mostly mornings and evenings or split. Applicants must hold a valid Australian work visa and be available to work the whole winter season from May to October.

If you would like the opportunity to spend the winter on top of the world, please apply by sending a cover letter, resume and photo to bookings@alpineretreatmtbuller.com.au. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interview in Melbourne.
