Getting Here
Conditions on the Mt Buller Road can vary at any time of year, so make sure you are prepared for the journey, whether you are visiting us in SUMMER or WINTER.
Stay in the Mt Buller Alpine Village
Mt Buller resort is a village at the top of the mountain, accessed by a steep 16km winding mountain road. There are a number of transport options, including buses, taxis and self-drive but you need to make sure you are prepared for the journey. Summer guests can drive to the Alpine Retreat Hotel and park out the front, but in winter, access is limited to the overnight car parks, where cars must be left and taxis bring you to the lodge.
WINTER
Mt Buller is located within the Alpine National Park and, therefore, a resort entry fee is payable at the resort entry gate in Mirimbah. Overnight car parking fees also apply. Vehicle access is restricted into the Alpine Village itself during winter and no parking is available at the Alpine Retreat. The resort car parks are located 2-3km before the village at the top of the 16km long windy and often snowy Mt Buller Road. As you drive up the mountain and into the resort you will be directed to park in an overnight car park, from where you will need to take an Oversnow Taxi up to the village and the lodge. The good news is that once you arrive in resort everything is within walking distance and there is also a free shuttle bus service to take you around the village.
DRIVING
Resort entry fees are payable from the first to the last day of the winter season
All resort entry, car parking and village transport services are operated by Mt Buller Resort Management Board (RMB). Requests for more information and bookings should be directed to 03 5777 6077 or the Mt Buller website, www.MtBuller.com.au.
WHEEL CHAINS
Everyone driving passed the resort entry gate in Mirimbah is required to carry snow chains in their vehicle, by law, to minimise the risk of accidents. The mountain road is often snowy and the overnight car parks are located above the snowline - which means you might need them to drive your car out of the car park and off the hill if it snows during your stay. It’s also a good idea to bring a shovel in the car, in case you need to dig your car out of deep snow, as well!
Snow chains can be hired through a number of outlets in Mansfield including the Mansfield BP station and the Mirimbah Store at the Resort Entry Gate.
DRIVE SAFE ON SNOW
Driving in snowy and icy conditions can be dangerous! Please take all necessary precautions on your way to us and look up more information about preparing your car and yourself for the journey, including tips for driving on snow.

FURTHER INFORMATION
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
A number of operators offer a coach service from Melbourne to Mt Buller, more details of which can be found on the Mt Buller website.
Mt Buller’s local operator is Mansfield-Mt Buller Buslines, who operate a route service from Mansfield that meets up with the Vline service from Melbourne. They also operate a Ski Express service from Tullamarine Airport direct to Mt Buller and a number of other pick up options across Melbourne.
If you prefer not to drive up the Mt Buller mountain road, you do have the option to park at Mirimbah, where the resort entry gate is located. The car parks here are cheaper per night, but you will then need to take the bus from the Mirimbah store up the 16km mountain road to the Alpine Village. The bus can be booked on the MMBL website. Parking here does not require you to have snow chains, as it is too low for snow. Once you arrive in the village you can walk to the Alpine Retreat Hotel (about 200m) and do not require an oversnow taxi (although you can still take one from the bus stop, if you prefer).
Book directly with Mt Buller bus services through the operators websites:
Summer
During summer, there are no restrictions on accessing the Mt Buller village and guests of the Alpine Retreat Hotel are welcome to park at the lodge. It is, however, always best to check driving conditions before you leave and to be prepared for bad weather, and even snow, at any time of year. Road closures are also common, especially during special events, like the Targa weekend or for mountain biking events.
