INFO
Alpine Retreat Mt Buller represents 50 years of family-owned Mt Buller accommodation and a dedicated team of friendly faces. Whether it’s your first snow trip or your 51st, we can help with everything you’ll need to know to make the most of the snow and Mt Buller.
Who we are
Family-friendly accommodation at Mt Buller, family-owned and operated!
Built in the 80s, the Alpine Retreat Hotel has been owned by the Short family for over 10 years, who’s involvement at Mt Buller actually started in the 60s with the inauguration of their family ski lodge, Avalanche Lodge, just up the road. Back then it took a lot longer to get to the mountains, the roads were windier and the access was steeper, and stories of waking up with snow in your eyebrows were common. But love for this area, skiing and the snow, has kept the Shorts in the game for over 50 years now.
What we offer
Mt Buller Accommodation with 4 FLOORS OF FACILITIES TO FILL EVERY HOUR OF YOUR MT BULLER HOLIDAY
Alpine Retreat Hotel Mt Buller combines the facilities of a hotel with the warm and cosy atmosphere of a ski lodge, some spectacular views and plenty of retro alpine charm.
STAY in our comfortable bunk rooms, offering great value accommodation at the snow, breakfast included!
EAT in our Restaurant, serving a hearty menu of pub favourites and warming alpine-inspired cuisine.
PLAY with the help of Danny, our pro-snowboarder turned ski tech, who takes care of our in-house Ski Hire all winter long.
RELAX after a day on the slopes and warm up in our pool and spa, sink into the comfy sofas of our TV and Games Room or enjoy a game of pool in the Bar.
ALL THIS UNDER ONE snowy ROOF!
Where we are
On-mountain accommodation in the heart of the Mt Buller Alpine Village
Mount Buller Alpine Village is located on top of Mount Buller at the start of the Great Dividing Range. It is the closest Australian ski resort to any major city or airport at just a 3 hour drive from Melbourne.
Alpine Retreat Hotel Mt Buller is located within the Mt Buller Alpine Village at the top of the snowy and windy Mt Buller Mountain Road.
The lodge is an easy 200m stroll from the village centre and Bourke Street Ski Run giving our guests easy access to the slopes, trails and all the excitement that Mount Buller has to offer.
PLEASE NOTE: DURING WINTER VEHICLE ACCESS IS RESTRICTED INTO THE MT BULLER ALPINE VILLAGE - NO PARKING IS AVAILABLE AT ANY LODGES
Before you decide to stay in the Mt Buller Alpine Village, you should be aware that there are certain costs associated with visiting, staying and parking on the mountain. One of the biggest things we are asked is how to get to Mt Buller and, we’ll be honest, it’s not as straightforward coming to the snow as it is going to the beach… But it will all make sense once you arrive – so please don’t worry!
When to Visit
Winter Season:
Plan your break between June and September and you’ll enjoy the best of Mount Buller, when the resort comes alive for the snow season and Mother Nature delivers the goods. The season officially opens every Queens Birthday weekend in June, with a big party that sees the whole resort come together to welcome back the winter. The season runs right through until the AFL Grand Final weekend and ends in similar style with another sporting party. June and September are considered the low season for snow, however, Mt Buller’s investment in world-class snowmaking guarantees guests skiing on Bourke Street, at least, from Day 1 to close down.
SUmmer Season:
Offering opportunities for mountain biking, hiking, trail running and many more outdoor pursuits, the fun doesn’t stop when the snow melts at Mount Buller. Over summer the mountains enjoy milder temperatures and long lazy days, plus some spectacular views and sunsets. The Alpine Retreat Hotel offers the same comfortable accommodation, with food and beverage options in-house so you can enjoy a mountain getaway without the crowds.
